Our Home.. Our Town..
Forbesganj
is an emerging town as well as a municipality / sub-division
situated in Araria district
(before 1990 under
Purnea district)
in
the state of Bihar, India.
Located at the border of Nepal and India, it is a vital economic
centre in the region. It is distanced 12 kms away from the Nepal
border.
City owned a name from Mr. James Forbes who was officer of
British India Raj.
During the British regime, the locality came under the
administration of East India Company. It is believed that the area
where the British official Mr. Alexander John Forbes bungalow was located was known
to be “Residential Area”, and one of the sub-divisions in the area
came to be known as “Forbesganj”.
Forbesganj is a small but prominent city long known for its jute
production. Off late the closure of these fiber mills have resulted
in the slow death of the jute industry here. With broad-gauge
conversion of railways under Unigauge network and construction
highways has again put the city on the economic map of India as most
of the activities are set to benefit. The infrastructure development
of the region in recent times has taken a surge with Broad Gauge
railway services started on Katihar-Jogbani route & construction of
NH-57, the place is all set to benefit in a big way.
